RSSB Group D Pathway

The RSSB Group D (4th Class) Syllabus 2026 is prescribed by the Rajasthan Staff Selection Board in its revised exam scheme. The written exam has 120 questions for 200 marks, set at the Class 10 (Rajasthan Board) level, covering four subjects. General Knowledge — with a strong Rajasthan focus — carries the highest weightage. The official subject-wise question distribution is given below.

The General Hindi section tests fundamental grammar, vocabulary and official-language usage. The key topics are:

• संज्ञा, सर्वनाम, क्रिया एवं विशेषण
• तत्सम-तद्भव, देशज एवं विदेशी शब्द
• संधि — अर्थ, प्रकार एवं संधि-विच्छेद
• उपसर्ग एवं प्रत्यय
• पर्यायवाची एवं विलोम शब्द
• वाक्यांश के लिए एक शब्द
• शब्द-शुद्धि एवं वाक्य-शुद्धि (वर्तनी संबंधी अशुद्धि को छोड़कर)
• काल के प्रकार (भेद)
• मुहावरे एवं लोकोक्तियाँ
• अंग्रेजी के पारिभाषिक (तकनीकी) शब्दों के समानार्थक हिन्दी शब्द
• कार्यालयी पत्रों से संबंधित ज्ञान — कार्यालय पत्र, कार्यालय आदेश, अधिसूचना, विज्ञप्ति, ज्ञापन, परिपत्र, निविदा एवं अर्द्धशासकीय पत्र

The General English section tests basic grammar, sentence structure and translation. The key topics are:

• Tenses and sequence of tenses
• Voice: active and passive
• Narration: direct and indirect
• Transformation of sentences (assertive to negative, interrogative, exclamatory and vice-versa)
• Correction of sentences and words wrongly used
• Use of articles and determiners
• Prepositions and punctuation
• Translation of simple sentences from Hindi to English and vice-versa
• Glossary of official and technical terms (with their Hindi versions)

General Knowledge is the largest section, with a strong emphasis on Rajasthan. It is divided into the following parts:

Geography of Rajasthan (20 Questions):

• Location, extent, physiography and physical divisions
• Soil, natural vegetation and forest conservation
• Climate, water resources, drainage system and lakes
• Major irrigation projects
• Population — size, growth, distribution, density, sex ratio and literacy
• Transport and state roads of Rajasthan
• Disaster management and climate change

History, Art & Culture of Rajasthan (20 Questions):

• Main historical events, the freedom movement and the integration of Rajasthan
• Important personalities, language and literature
• Culture and social life, costumes and ornaments
• Musical instruments, folk deities, folk literature and dialects
• Fairs and festivals, folk art, architecture, folk music, dance and theatre
• Tourist places and monuments, and notable personalities of Rajasthan

Indian Constitution & Rajasthan Polity (10 Questions):

• Introduction and basic features of the Constitution
• State governance and politics — Governor, Chief Minister and Council of Ministers
• Legislative Assembly and judiciary
• Administrative structure of the state — Chief Secretary, district administration (general and police)
• Judicial structure at the district level and the Right to Information Act

General Science (5 Questions):

• Physical and chemical changes; metals, non-metals and major compounds
• Reflection and laws of light
• General terminology related to genetics
• Human body — structure and organ systems; major human diseases, causes and diagnosis
• Waste management

Current Affairs (10 Questions — India 5, Rajasthan 5):

• Issues related to sports, politics, economy, and social, geographical, cultural, ecological and technical fields
• Rajasthan state and national issues, famous personalities, and state and national programmes and policies

Basic Computer (5 Questions):

• Overview of computer system — hardware devices and software (operating system and application software)
• Overview of office applications — MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint
• Internet and email

The General Mathematics section tests basic arithmetic at the Class 10 level. The key topics are:

• Average
• Percentage
• Profit and loss
• Simple interest and compound interest
• Ratio and proportion
• Partnership
• Time and work
• Time, speed and distance

RSSB Group D Exam – Quick Overview 

The RSSB 4th Class (Group D) written exam has 120 objective multiple-choice questions for 200 marks, to be completed in 2 hours. The paper is set at the Class 10 (Rajasthan Board) level and carries a negative marking of 1/3 mark for each wrong answer. The final merit list is prepared solely on the written exam score, after which shortlisted candidates go through document verification — there is no interview. 

RSSB Group D Preparation Tips 2026 

With lakhs of candidates competing for limited Grade-IV posts, RSSB Group D selection comes down to accuracy and smart subject priority. A focused 6–8 hours of daily study, with steady revision, is the proven approach. 

1. Understand the Exam Pattern and Syllabus First 
Before you start, get the full exam pattern and syllabus clear — the 120 questions, 200 marks, 2-hour limit and the 1/3 negative marking. Knowing the weightage of each subject lets you put more time into high-scoring sections and skip nothing important. 

2. Make Rajasthan GK Your Top Priority 
General Knowledge is the single largest section with around 70 of the 120 questions, and it leans heavily towards Rajasthan. Focus on Rajasthan's history, art and culture, geography, folk dances, fairs and festivals, and major monuments, along with its political and administrative system. Since nearly 40 questions come from Rajasthan geography and history/culture alone, strong Rajasthan GK is the biggest deciding factor in this exam. 

3. Build General Science from NCERT 
General Science is best prepared from NCERT/Class 10-standard textbooks, covering the basics of Physics, Chemistry and Biology. The questions are fundamental, so clear concepts are usually enough to score the available marks here. 

4. Stay Updated with Current Affairs 
Cover current affairs of the last 6–12 months — both Rajasthan-specific and national events, including government schemes, appointments, sports and awards. Reading a daily newspaper and keeping short notes makes this section easy to revise close to the exam. 

5. Strengthen Your Mathematics 
The Maths section is basic arithmetic at the Class 10 level. Master shortcuts and formulas for number system, percentage, profit and loss, ratio and proportion, average, and simple and compound interest. Regular timed practice builds the speed you need to clear these questions quickly. 

6. Don't Neglect General Hindi & English 
Both languages test foundational grammar, vocabulary (synonyms, antonyms), tenses and sentence structure. These are high-accuracy, scoring sections, so steady practice of grammar rules and previous questions turns them into reliable marks. 

7. Cover Basic Computer Knowledge 
Basic Computer is part of the syllabus and is often overlooked, yet it's among the easiest sections to score in. Revise computer fundamentals — hardware, software, MS Office basics, the internet and email — for some quick, certain marks. 

8. Make Short Notes and Revise Daily 
Consolidate important formulas, grammar rules and quick-recall Rajasthan GK facts into brief notes you can revise fast. Daily revision keeps the large GK syllabus fresh and is what separates candidates who retain from those who forget under exam pressure.

Take one full-length timed mock test a week to begin with, then increase to daily as the exam nears, and review every mistake to fix weak areas. The RSSB Group D (4th Class) Cut Off is the minimum normalised marks a candidate must secure to qualify for the next stage — document verification. It is released by the Rajasthan Staff Selection Board category-wise, and separately for Non-Scheduled (Non-TSP) and Scheduled (TSP) areas, representing the marks of the last selected candidate in each category. Since the exam is conducted in multiple shifts, scores are normalised before the cut off is finalised. The cut off depends on the number of vacancies, the difficulty of the exam, the number of candidates and reservation rules, so it changes with every recruitment cycle.

The table below shows the category-wise RSSB Group D cut off for the Non-TSP (Non-Scheduled) area for the latest cycle, out of 200 marks. These are the final qualifying marks released by the board, against 53,749 vacancies for which over 21.7 lakh candidates appeared.

Note: The cut off for the TSP (Scheduled) area is released separately by the board and is generally lower. Candidates from TSP districts should check the official TSP cut-off list.

Apart from the category-wise cut off, candidates must also secure the minimum qualifying marks to be considered for the merit list:

Meeting the minimum qualifying marks does not guarantee selection — as the figures above show, the actual cut off is much higher and depends on the vacancies and the level of competition.

The RSSB Group D cut off is not fixed and varies each cycle. The main factors that influence it are:

• Number of vacancies: more vacancies lower the cut off, while fewer push it higher
• Number of candidates: higher competition raises the cut off
• Difficulty of the exam: an easier paper raises the cut off, a tougher one lowers it
• Normalisation: applied as the exam is conducted in multiple shifts
• Area and category: cut-offs differ between the TSP and Non-TSP areas and across categories
