Product Engineer

VaatunGurugram, Haryana, IN
0+ Years Exp

Vaatun is an InsureTech company focused on transforming how insurance intermediaries work & grow. The organization combines advanced AI with an intuitive UX to help brokers, agents, MGAs & corporate clients streamline workflows and increase engagement. By reducing operational complexity, Vaatun enables its customers to unlock new business opportunities and accelerate innovation. The team takes a consultative, problem-solving approach, partnering closely with clients to deliver practical, high-impact solutions. Joining Vaatun means contributing to meaningful change in a traditionally slow-moving industry. The role, honestly As a Full Stack Engineer, you'll design, build, and maintain the web applications powering Vaatun's AI-driven insurance solutions: back-end services, front-end interfaces, API integrations, and performance/security across the stack. You'll think like a PM, designer, and engineer at once: translating business requirements into well-architected solutions, writing clean and testable code, and showing up seriously to code reviews. You'll also help sharpen our development processes, troubleshoot production issues, and keep our technical documentation honest. One thing to know upfront: this isn't a conventional coding role. AI agents now absorb a growing share of raw implementation at Vaatun, so you're hired more for specification, decomposition, verification, and architectural judgment than for typing code. Your work is turning messy real-world insurance workflows into outcome driven interfaces, reviewing what agents produce with real scrutiny, and knowing when a decision is a reversible bet versus one that needs more rigor upfront. What you'll actually work on • Designing and shipping modules across our Nx monorepo(s) (TypeScript, pnpm, Vite, TanStack Router, tRPC, Prisma, BullMQ, Azure Container Apps) • Building and integrating both internal and third-party APIs across the policy/claims/commissions lifecycle • Reviewing and steering AI-agent-generated code for correctness, architecture fit, and cost & not just "does it run" • Decomposing ambiguous insurance operations problems into specifiable engineering tasks, in collaboration with product and design • Troubleshooting production issues and owning them through to resolution, not just triage • Writing and maintaining technical documentation that the next engineer (human or agent) can actually work from • Making infrastructure and cost tradeoffs directly no "someone else's budget" to hide behind The Vaatun-wide hiring bar Regardless of function, everyone we hire needs to clear the same bar. This applies whether you're writing code, closing a deal, or handling ops. • Builder mentality. You'd rather ship something imperfect and iterate than wait for permission or the "right" spec. You treat ambiguity as something to resolve, not something to escalate. • Product judgment and taste. You have opinions about what makes software good — not just "does it work" but "should it exist this way." At a company our size, engineers shape product decisions daily, whether they're asked to or not. • Comfort with domain complexity. Insurance is dense you need to know regulations, actuarial logics, distribution economics. We're not looking for people who already know it cold; we're looking for people who get energized by learning a complicated domain deeply, because that instinct transfers. It's also why we can credibly move into adjacent regulated spaces like fintech over time, and we want people who'd be excited by that rather than intimidated by it. • Forward-deployed attitude. No one at Vaatun gets to think "customer conversations are somebody else's job." If a client is confused, blocked, or frustrated, that's your problem too, regardless of title. We're small enough that everyone is customer-facing some of the time. What we're screening for (role-specific) • Agentic fluency + verification depth. You can direct AI agents productively and catch what they get wrong. Comfortable reviewing an agent's PR the way you'd review a junior engineer's. • Genuine domain curiosity. Not a requirement to already know the domain but you should be the kind of person who gets curious about how policies, claims, and commissions actually work, because you'll be expected to go deep. • Cost-per-decision instinct. You internalize token economics and infra tradeoffs as part of the engineering job, not as an afterthought. • Writing, as a hard requirement. You can specify a problem clearly in prose before touching code. • Comfort with reversible bets. You can tell the difference between decisions worth deliberating over and ones worth shipping fast and correcting later. Requirements • Strong full-stack TypeScript/JavaScript experience; monorepo experience (Nx or equivalent) is a plus • Demonstrated ability to work with AI coding agents in a real production codebase, not just as autocomplete • Comfortable in a small-team, high-ownership environment with limited hand-holding Good to have • Willingness to occasionally step into founder's-office-adjacent work things like GTM support, enterprise deal input, ops, sometimes the company needs it, given our size. • Prior exposure to insurance, fintech, or other regulated domains. • A family or personal background in insurance/wealth management, this just because we've noticed people with this tend to onboard into the domain faster (not required, just a helpful signal) One thing to know going in All tech hires at Vaatun are expected to complete relevant insurance certifications after a reasonable period on the job. This isn't optional, as already mentioned domain fluency is part of the role.
